Stealth Technology – Coming Everywhere Near You!

Posted by drteine on November 4, 2009

Two very interesting articles I found recently, both in journals I can’t post links to easily here because they’re both for subscribers only and academic libraries but I’ll share with you the general gist of the articles.

1)  Stealth technology for anti-radar is about to become widely available, regardless of your security clearance.  Why?   Because they’re putting it on wind turbine blades so these huge blades stop sending false radar signals to airports.  Apparently this is already underway in Europe and if you get can get it commercially for wind turbine blades you can get it at just about any composite manufacture shop.

2) I read an article in a scientific journal, a review article mind you pointing to the body of literature out there, by Chinese authors explaining how stealth technology works and the typical materials used to generate this effect.  Not just a survey article, but the actual tech and mechanism behind how it works.  This was a peer-reviewed article now available at university libraries everywhere.

So I wonder when someone will custom outfit their car with this and blow past the cops and radar guns and the cops can’t figure out why they can’t get a return signal.  Guess LADAR is coming next to one-up the stealth cars.

I’ve heard rumors of this being done at White Sands… but having it available generally would certainly be interesting!

Eventually some technologies to become so common that they’re not really that special anymore, and I suspect stealth to radar is moving into that realm. So I do wonder what we’ll see next – stealth to radio and light waves would be really interesting but from what I understand light bending technology is very very far away.
